Fundraising Project
Alzheimer's Society is the main UK organisation leading the fight against all types of dementia. By working with Alzheimer’s we can help to provide care for today and invest in a cure for tomorrow.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. It’s a physical disease of the brain – not a natural part of ageing. It slowly robs someone of their ability to do everyday tasks such as eating, talking and walking. Dementia has a devastating impact on families, friends and communities all over the nation and more people affected by dementia turn to Alzheimer’s Society than any other organisation. There are 750,000 people with dementia in the UK today and every five minutes another person develops it – you probably know someone affected. Tragically, at the moment – there is no cure.
Together Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland support over 100,000 people every year through our network of branches and national helpline. We help people like Ruby;
'It's such a shock when your own husband doesn’t know who you are any more. After being married for 62 years… well, it breaks your heart.'
Without Alzheimer’s Society, Ruby, and thousands of other carers like her, would have nowhere to turn. Alzheimer’s Society lead the fight against dementia, campaigning for a fairer deal for people with dementia and their carers, and investing over £2 million a year into research to find better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for this terrifying condition.
