Recycling Appeal Start Date: March 2006 |
Formed in 1888 by twelve founder members, The Football League is the world's original league football competition and is the template for leagues the world over. Today, it has 72 member clubs and is the largest single body of professional clubs in European football. The Football League is also the best-attended sporting competition in Europe . The 2004/05 Coca-Cola League season recorded an aggregate attendance of 16.4 million - The League's best figures for 45 years.
League clubs are an integral part of the communities they serve. Each season club community programmes visit more than 7,000 schools, delivering football activities to over 1 million children.
At the elite end, the professional players of the future receive specialist training through The League's Youth Development programme under which 9,000 talented youngsters between the ages of 8-18 receive coaching from 1,000 fully qualified coaches.
