Spring Clean and Go Green for CHAS!
The Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) is urging people to have a spring clean and help them raise funds through their innovative mobile phone and printer cartridge Recycling Appeal.
It is estimated that there are 90 million old mobiles lying around in drawers and cupboards across the UK just waiting for a spring clean. If you have any why not dust them down and donate them to the CHAS Recycling Appeal? The appeal can turn these old handsets and used printer cartridges into valuable cash so next time you are about to drop your empty cartridge in the bin - stop and drop it into one of our Freepost envelopes instead.
Funds generated from the Recycling Appeal help the charity’s invaluable work for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. Through their two hospices, Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch, they provide respite services, terminal care and bereavement support to those in need throughout Scotland. The charity also runs the Rachel House at Home service which provides care for families in the North of Scotland in their own homes. These vital services are available to families free of charge, however, it costs CHAS almost £5 million each year to run Rachel House, Robin House and the Rachel House at Home service.
Supporting the CHAS Recycling Appeal is also an easy way to help our environment. If thrown in the bin mobile phones and printer cartridges end up in landfill where the toxic substances they contain can leak into the soil surrounding landfill sites, damaging plant and wildlife. There is also trouble at the top of the site where decomposing waste produces the greenhouse gases carbon dioxide and methane; so the less waste we put in landfill the better it is for climate change.
