The Lighthouse Club Recycling Appeal Start Date: November 2008 |
Sponsored and funded by the construction industry’s Lighthouse Club - a nation wide voluntary, social, and networking organisation - the Lighthouse Club Benevolent Fund offers financial help to all in construction and its many associated industries, who have come on hard times through accident or illness. The Fund is run entirely by construction people - for construction people; it is a voluntary network of welfare officers and fund trustees aided by just one extremely hard working administrator. This frugal arrangement enables the Fund to operate on an extremely cost effective basis, well over 90 pence of each pound contributed goes as aid to construction workers and their families.
Fundraising Project
The ‘cutting edge’ of the Benevolent Fund is its volunteer welfare officers, all of whom have had long experience working in construction. The Fund’s welfare officers endeavor to meet and talk with applicants in the shortest possible time; the trustees consider applications in a matter of days. In the case of a fatality the Fund has an ‘emergency’ procedure which can, and does, get help to the bereaved within 48 hours. Speed is of the essence, because, without exception, applicants are bewildered by the bureaucracy of state agencies which mostly take weeks to put entitlements into effect.
For the average construction worker and his family, an accident or a serious illness is a financial catastrophe, the Lighthouse Club Benevolent Fund is here to offer an almost immediate lifeline and, if necessary, ongoing financial support.
