Orchid Recycling Appeal Start Date: October 2008Registered Charity No: 1080540 |
Over 37,000 men will be diagnosed with a male-specific cancer this year
Orchid is fighting male cancer through research and awareness and by supporting patients and their families throughout their cancer journey.
Fundraising Project
Established in 1996, Orchid is now recognised for its world-class research programmes and is the only cancer charity devoted exclusively to improving treatment and diagnosis methods for the uniquely male cancers; prostate, penile and testicular. Research funded by Orchid aims to increase scientific understanding of prostate, penile and testicular cancers to benefit current and future generations of men affected by these diseases. Projects cover a range of key research issues including the use of genetic markers to predict the progression of cancer and the use of specific drugs to improve the success of existing treatments.
Orchid also promotes awareness about the often overlooked men’s cancers to schools, communities, the workplace, healthcare professionals and the media via leaflets and factsheets, an award winning DVD resource pack, newsletter, website
www.orchid-cancer.org.uk, campaigns and awareness days. Raising awareness of prostate, penile and testicular cancers is helping to achieve early detection, diagnosis and treatment which impacts on survival rates and ultimately saves men’s lives.
